Embroidery is weight
A heavily embroidered front panel can weigh as much as the rest of the garment combined. That weight changes how the fabric drapes, where the wrinkles form, and how the wearer moves.
Cultural placements
A Nigerian agbada wears embroidery on the chest panel and cuffs. A Talli weave in the Gulf register wears it on the front bodice and trouser hem. South Asian zardozi often follows the seam line. Each placement is a tradition you can honour or knowingly break.
Embroidery as structure
A corseted bodice with dense beading does not need separate boning; the embroidery itself provides structure. A skirt panel with heavy embroidery falls into geometry rather than flow.
Placement decisions
Place embroidery where you want weight. Want a defined waist? Embroider the waistband. Want a dramatic train? Concentrate the embroidery at the hem. Want volume at the shoulder? Saturate the yoke.
